CPR Blog
CPR is a chest compression and rescue breathing procedure. If someone is not circulating blood or breathing adequately, CPR will help to restore circulation of oxygen rich blood. Without oxygen, a brain can die within 8 minutes. One should perforn CPR for about 2 minutes before calling for help.CPR may be necessary for drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, etc.
In babies or children, rubbing over the breastbone can help determine if there is any level of responsiveness. Meanwhile for older childrem or adults, the same process could be done by gently tapping the shoulders.
Before doing any of the process, one must determine if it is safe to approach the person. For example, if one person is electrocuted, make sure all electric currents are turned off to prevent further electrocution.
When approaching that person, make sure to evalutate whether the person is responsive. Look for sounds of mouth, eye opening, chest movement, and pulse. CPR is continued until of spontaneous circulation(ROSC) or is declared dead.
